Social video without a template look: an example brief

    Niels JansenUpdated

If every client gets the same zooms, captions and sound effects, give your editor specific choices for this video. Identify the shot carrying the message, where to leave breathing room and which brand details to repeat.

Example: let the viewer see one action

This is an illustrative edit for a furniture workshop. Supplied footage includes a 90-second interview and close-ups of oiling an oak table. The brand uses a calm style, dark green titles and a supplied typeface.

The first brief says "make it dynamic". The edit opens with a logo, cuts every two seconds and animates each caption word. Zooms interrupt the brushstroke that shows the grain appearing.

The revised brief makes different choices possible:

    • Open with the brushstroke at 00:34 to 00:42 in the source clip. Let the movement finish so viewers can see the wood change.
    • Underneath, use the interview line explaining what the oil does to the surface. Remove repeated explanation; keep the breath before the next action.
    • Caption short phrases in the brand typeface, in a fixed position clear of the action. Use dark green for the title, without bouncing words.
    • Add one simple pointer to the grain. Leave out zooms and whoosh sounds; keep the brushstroke audio.

What to send with this brief

    1. Purpose and channel: an organic vertical video showing the oiling process.
    2. Style assets: the typeface, colour code and an approved caption layout.

Check the version you will publish

Preview the vertical export with the chosen platform interface. Can you still see the action, captions and any call to action? Agree separately whether you need a shorter version or another opening. A new message needs a revised brief.

FutureFlows edits supplied footage, with captions and motion graphics agreed in scope.
